President Donald Trump’s reelection and a GOP majority could very well mean new faces on the Supreme Court.
The American Bar Association Journal (ABA) wasted no time getting President Trump’s Supreme Court short list up less than 24 hours after his win.
There are two dozen names cited by the ABA, which cites Law360, the New York Times, Fox News, and Bloomberg as disclaimers for the names on the list. Forbes slashes all names but two, reporting if Justices “right-leaning” Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas retire, President Trump’s new appointments are significant.
While Justice Thomas is the second African American to sit on the Supreme Court, his recent notoriety regarding receiving gifts from billionaire benefactors, reported by ProPublica, are not in his favor.
Newsweek suggest Thomas may be swayed to retire in an effort to “cement the conservative majority.”
Whether or not Thomas’s past gratis vacations and private-plane rides will be used against him or not in an effort to remove him is unknown. But what is evident is how “his honor” has raised questions about Supreme Court ethics and tenure.

As for Justice Alito, like Thomas, his age is a factor, with both judges respectively 74 and 76, the two oldest on the dais.
Forbes states even though there would be no immediate threat to the “existing 6-3 conservative tilt,” it could mean future consequences if President Trump names young GOP successors to replace Thomas and Alito.
And why are President Trump’s possible picks so important?
Newsweek states,
“The current conservative supermajority on the court was secured during Trump’s first term, when he appointed Justices Neil Gorsuch, 57, Brett Kavanaugh, 59, and Amy Coney Barrett, 52, resulting in the 6-3 decision to overturn Roe. V. Wade in 2022,” according to the Nov. 8 news report.
Bottom-line, as always, President Trump will have everything to say about the matter.
