Investigators Seek Suspect in Washington & Oregon Ballot Box Arson

Following the three arson incidents that resulted in the damage of hundreds of Washington and Oregon ballot boxes, investigators are now looking for the suspect who is responsible for the fires.

Fires that destroyed hundreds of voting ballot boxes in Washington state and three ballot boxes in Oregon just days before Election Day are currently being investigated by the Portland Police Department as they release details of their suspect Wednesday.

“In terms of anticipating future behavior, that’s a speculation,” Portland Police Chief Bob Day stated

“That’s just what we have to anticipate. It would be really naive of us or unjust for us to say that ‘hey, it’s all taken care of,’ and we don’t have him in custody,” he continued.

According to the Portland Police Bureau spokesperson Mike Benner, the suspect is an alleged 30 to 40-year-old White man who has a thin to medium build.

Benner also revealed that the suspect was balding or had very short hair and was wearing a dark-colored shirt.

The suspect is also alleged to have a “wealth of experience” in metal work such as metal fabrication and welding, according to the Oregon Public Broadcast.

“We believe this suspect has a wealth of experience in metal fabrication and welding,” Benner said.

Benner also shared his belief that the unidentified suspect would strike again.

“It’s very possible the suspect continues targeted attacks across the area.”

The devices allegedly used in the string of ballot box arson-charged incidents were marked with “Free Gaza”

Three vote boxes in the neighborhood have been set on fire in the last three weeks. The earliest incident could possibly date back to October 8th, according to CNN.

Election officials say 345 of the voters who sought fresh ballots have already done so after identifying 488 damaged ballots that were recovered from a burnt ballot box in Vancouver, Washington.

143 more replacement ballots will be mailed to voters on Thursday, according to officials on X.

According to the AP News and police, the individual was seen operating a black or dark-colored 2001–2004 Volvo S-60 on security footage.

The suspect’s alleged car had an unidentified rear license plate with letters and numbers on it but no front license plate.

According to CNN, Crime Stoppers of Oregon is promising $2,500 for information that results in an arrest.
