President-elect Donald Trump Visits Biden at the White House

President-elect Donald Trump made a recent trip to the White House to visit with current President Joe Biden and discuss a smooth transfer of power in the days leading up to Trump’s inauguration.

This meeting comes nearly two weeks after Trump beat Vice President Kamala Harris in the battle for the presidency, earning him his second term as President of the United States. This also marks Trump’s first visit to the White House since his first term as president ended back in January 2021.

The meeting took place in the Oval Office, where Trump and Biden shook hands, with Biden wishing Trump a successful term. However, despite the meeting lasting over two hours, the media was granted little time to capture and document the exchange, as they were escorted from the Oval Office within a minute of the meeting starting.

Nonetheless, they were able to record a few words exchanged between the two men, during which President Biden displayed a big smile on his face while Trump displayed a relaxed demeanor.

“Well, Mr. President-elect, former President Donald, congratulations,” Biden said to Trump. “Looking forward to having a, like we said, smooth transition, so that we can be sure that you’re accommodated with what you need.”

“Thank you very much,” Trump replied. “Politics is tough, and it’s, in many cases, not a very nice world, but it is a nice world today and I appreciate a transition that’s so smooth, it’ll be as smooth as it can get.”

CBS News reports that, after the media left the room, the two continued to talk about various domestic issues and international conflicts, particularly the wars in Ukraine and in the Middle East.

“President Biden reinforced his view that The United States standing with Ukraine on an ongoing basis is in our national security interest, ” said Jake Sullivan, the National Security Advisor.

Trump is to be sworn into the office of the Presidency on January 20, 2025.
