Former President Jimmy Carter has made history as he is the first 100-year-old former president to cast his vote for U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
Carter cast his ballot by mail during the second day of Georgia’s early voting, which had a record turnout rate.
According to The New York Times, the Carter Center’s chairman, Jason Carter, sent a text to report that his grandfather’s ballot had been placed in a drop box at an American courthouse.

The longest-living president was eagerly anticipating the day when he cast his vote for Harris, according to the Associated Press.
“I asked him two months ago if he was trying to live to be 100, and he said, ‘No, I’m trying to live to vote for Kamala Harris,’” Chip Carter, son of the former president shared with the publication.
According to Chip, the longest-living former president has been “plugged in” the Presidential race for the election year of 2024.

Carter, who has been in hospice since February 2023, turned 100 years old at the beginning of the month.
On Tuesday, the first day of early voting for the state of Georgia, there were approximately 252,000 voters who cast their ballots, according to the Chief Operating Officer for Georgia’s Secretary of State’s office, Gabriel Sterling.
Tuesday’s turnout record beat those who cast an early vote during the 2020 Presidential election by 136,000 voters.
