As the ongoing investigation of New York City Mayor Eric Adams continues, a former official has now been charged with witness tampering and destroying evidence during an investigation sweep.
The arrest of Mohamed Bahi, Adams’ liaison to the New York City Muslim community, occurred Tuesday, just one day after he forcibly resigned from his position. Bahi was arrested for allegedly destroying evidence and witness tampering. He was released on a $250,000 bond.

According to the New York Post, Bahi conspired with a businessman and four of his employees to lie to the FBI about their illegal donations to Mayor Adams’ campaign back in 2021.
The New York Post also alleged that the businessman who allegedly made illegal donations to Mayor Adams’ campaign is Tolib Mansurov, an Uzbeck American contractor.
Bahi was accused of advising the contractor to have his employees donate just under $2000, (which is below the maximum amount of funds that can be donated individually in New York City) to Adams’ campaign, then refund them the money.
According to prosecutors, Bahi allegedly revealed that Adams believed that the contractor would not cooperate with law enforcement.
Bahi allegedly erased an encrypted messaging app from his phone when investigators searched his home in July.
As the probing of Mayor Adams’ federal bribery and corruption allegations continues, his senior deputy, Sheena Wright, stepped down from her position on Monday. However, she has yet to disclose the reasoning behind her sudden resignation.

The news of Wright’s resignation followed after Adams announced that Wright’s husband, and school chancellor David Banks would be leaving this month, instead of his initial retirement plans of leaving at the end of the year.
With the resignation of Police Commissioner Edward Caban last month, he expressed that he didn’t want his investigation to be a “distraction” to the force. Key advisor Timothy Pearson has also resigned.
All six resigned staff members had their phones confiscated by federal investigators and have all denied any misconduct.

As his investigation proceeds, Adams, who pled not guilty to bribery and corruption charges, stated that he plans to stay in office and plans to run in next year’s mayoral race. Adams was accused of accepting $100,000 for free and discounted international flights, hotels, food, and entertainment.
Mayor Adams also was accused of accepting illegal campaign funds from Turkish representatives and other representatives from other countries.
