President Joe Biden Announces He Has Pardoned His Son, Hunter in Federal Tax and Gun Convictions

On Sunday, President Biden sparked public outrage as he announced that he had pardoned his son, Hunter, as he faced sentencing stemming from his federal tax and gun convictions.

As he gets ready to exit the White House next month, President Joe Biden shared that he has pardoned his son Hunter, who was facing sentencing this month for his federal tax and firearms convictions just weeks before former president Donald Trump takes office for his second term.

“Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter,” President Biden began.

“From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted,” he continued.

Hunter was found guilty of federal tax evasion and gun offenses and was set to face sentencing on December 12th.

Biden was indicted September 15, 2023 in federal court in Delaware on three counts tied to possession of a gun while using crack cocaine.

“According to the tax Information, Hunter Biden received taxable income in excess of $1,500,000 annually in calendar years 2017 and 2018,” the District of Delaware’s press release read.

It continued.

“Despite owing in excess of $100,000 in federal income taxes each year, he did not pay the income tax due for either year.”

According to the indictment submitted in federal court in Delaware by a special counsel in charge of the case, Biden is accused of lying about his drug usage when he purchased a weapon in October 2018.

He lied on a federal form when he stated that he was not using or addicted to any illegal narcotics while purchasing a revolver in Delaware, despite the fact that he was at the time battling his crack addiction.

He was in possession of the firearm for 11 days.

In his statement on Sunday night, President Biden also discussed his son’s battles with addiction and said that his political rivals were attempting to “break” him by targeting Hunter.

“No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son — and that is wrong,” Biden said

“There has been an effort to break Hunter — who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to break Hunter, they’ve tried to break me — and there’s no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough,” President Biden continued.

Hunter Biden will not be punished for his crimes, and the pardon removes the threat that he will be imprisoned, which could have been a potential outcome. This pardon also cannot be overturned by Trump once he takes office.
